On what would have been his 40th birthday, Nipsey Hussle will be honored by the Los Angeles Metro with two limited edition TAP cards and a temporary Hyde Park Station renaming as part of the Metro x Culture series. We discuss it here!

The late hometown hero Nipsey Hussle is set to be recognized by the Los Angeles Metro on what would have been his 40th birthday. Launching on August 15th, Hussle will be featured on two limited edition TAP cards. Also, the Hyde Park Station will be temporarily renamed in his honor.

The release is a part of the Metro x Culture series, which according to the official website, celebrates the “Real Ones” of Los Angeles. Which includes leaders, artists and visionaries who have shaped the city’s culture, specifically those whose lives have intersected with Metro’s transit system.

In total, 12,000 TAP cards will be in circulation until they sell out and the exclusive item will not be sold online. Fans of the “Slauson Boy” can claim their new cards by signing up for the LIFE program and at TVMS at the following locations:

Hyde Park Station (K Line)

Crenshaw Station (C Line)

Slauson Station (J Line)

Compton Station (A Line)

Hollywood/Vine Station (B Line)

Expo/Crenshaw Station (E Line)

The two designs available for the Nipsey Hussle TAP card will feature him standing proudly in his neighborhood in artwork titled “Crenshaw & Slauson,” by Jonathan Mannion. The second image captures the late rapper on the Metro, in a photo taken by Anthony Pham.

Earlier this year, Nipsey Hussle’s brother, Blacc Sam, revealed that his first posthumous album is in the works and is set to be released later this year, while also clarifying that only certain music from the slain artist would ever see the light of day.

If Hussle didn’t actually do the verse or work with the person or put together the blueprint for the project, we not doing it. He did something with Bino, and there’s a new project that we’re about to release. This was a project that he had with Bino that was pretty much like 80% finished.

A$AP Rocky Acquitted: A Victory in Court and Fashion

A$AP Rocky walked out of a Los Angeles courtroom victorious, not just in clearing his name from an assault charge, but also in making a bold sartorial statement, solidifying his reputation as both a trendsetter and cultural icon. We discuss it here!

A$AP Rocky, Grammy-nominated artist and husband to Rihanna, walked out of a Los Angeles courtroom victorious. Not just in legal terms but in sartorial excellence. The rapper, known for his avant-garde approach to fashion, was found not guilty of an assault charge stemming from a dispute with former friend and fellow A$AP Mob member, Terrell Ephron (A$AP Relli). While the legal battle may have been the focus of the proceedings, Rocky’s courtroom attire made an equally compelling statement.

Rocky arrived in a sophisticated pinstripe suit, effortlessly blending formal elegance with his signature streetwear-infused style. His look featured a tailored wool ensemble, a sleek double-breasted $5,300 cashmere jacket, and a refined $4,000 trench coat, each piece selected to exude confidence and composure. His footwear choice, a pair of glazed leather Vadim Derbies from a French luxury house further cemented his position as a style icon. Finishing touches included silk scarves and immaculately styled braids, reinforcing his reputation for elevating menswear with a personal twist.

The verdict comes at a pivotal time for Rocky, who has several high-profile projects on the horizon. He is set to headline Rolling Loud in Los Angeles this March, serve as a celebrity co-chair for the Met Gala in May, and star alongside Denzel Washington in Spike Lee’s latest film. Despite the high stakes of the trial, Rocky maintained an air of poise and humility, using fashion as an unspoken declaration of resilience and triumph.

Interestingly, Rihanna, his equally fashion-forward wife, was also seen in a pinstripe ensemble, subtly mirroring Rocky’s aesthetic. While her presence was a noteworthy addition, this moment was undeniably his both in court and in couture.

From legal battles to front-row fashion, A$AP Rocky continues to prove that style and substance go hand in hand. His courtroom attire wasn’t just a choice; it was a statement; a victorious one at that.

By: Joshua Martin

In light of the rap group’s monumental impact on music and culture, N.W.A. is being honored at the 2024 Grammys with this year’s Lifetime Achievement Award. According to the Recording Academy, the Lifetime Achievement Award is “presented by vote of the Recording Academy’s National Trustees to performers who, during their lifetimes, have made creative contributions of outstanding artistic significance to the field of recording.”

Originally from Compton, California, N.W.A. mainly consists of Eazy-E, Ice Cube, Dr. Dre, MC Ren, and DJ Yella. Armed with explicit and often controversial lyrics about societal issues that remain prevalent in the inner cities of America till this day, their authenticity and unapologetic approach gained them critical success and a devout following.

“The World’s Most Dangerous rap group” will be among other recipients of the prestigious accolade, which will be presented on February 3rd at the Wilshire Ebell Theatre in Los Angeles. Other notable honorees in this year’s class include the Empress of Soul Gladys Knight, the late great Disco songstress Donna Summer and gospel group, The Clark Sisters.

The incendiary yet trailblazing hip hop group that introduced the world to gangsta rap will become the sixth act of its genre to receive the highly coveted award. Previous winners include Grandmaster Flash & The Furious Five, Run-DMC, Public Enemy, Salt-N-Pepa and Slick Rick.

Additionally, Dj Kool Herc will be honored with the Trustees Award for his widespread influence and contributions to hip hop culture. Described as a “Special Merit” award by Recording Academy CEO Harvey Mason Jr., the special honor is given to those who represent the rich diversity that drives creative communities forward.

Gunna Sells Out Barclays Center in First Show Since Jail Release

Gunna's electrifying comeback show at Barclays Center sets the stage for his A Gift and A Curse Tour, featuring fan-favorite hits and a display of support for Young Thug. We Discuss it here!

Gunna set the stage ablaze in his first sold-out show, 'The Gift,' since being released from jail, and the fans loved it. He performed every song off of his new LP from start to finish. The Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York, was the site where the YSL affiliate graced the stage for the first time since his release in December 2022.

His set include hits songs like "Hot," "Back At It," and most notably the viral hit "F*kumean."

Gunna also showed support for YSL leader Young Thug, opening the show with a large sign that read “Free Jeffrey” according to reports. Young Thug’s legal name is Jeffrey Williams Jr.

Gunna’s performance at the Barclays Center was the first of two shows he has scheduled for this month. His next show, 'The Curse,' will take place at the YouTube Theater in Los Angeles on September 28.

Gunna is currently on tour, promoting his latest project, 'A Gift and A Curse,' which has received mixed reviews due to allegations of him cooperating with his YSL co-defendants last year. This controversy explains why he has never performed the song live. Despite the criticism, the album has earned Gunna his first top-ten single on the Billboard Hot 100 as a solo artist with "F*Kumean," which peaked at number 3 in July.

Gunna also partnered with PLUS! and the nonprofit Goodr for 'The Gift.' $1 from every ticket sold was donated to the Goodr Foundation, an organization that, according to their website, "strives to end world hunger by cultivating countless resources." If his Los Angeles show draws a substantial audience, it wouldn't be surprising to see a full-scale tour in the near future.

YSL RICO Trial Update

While Gunna is free and performing, his YSL peers are looking at a much bleaker situation. Thug and seven other defendants are facing numerous charges relating to the group's operations in Atlanta. Despite the trail starting in January, jury selection is still ongoing. In spite of renewed pleas for Young Thug to receive bond, he and many of his peers remain behind bars. The trail is set to resume in October, with many legal experts projecting that the case could last another six to 8 months.

Last night Beyoncè shut Inglewood down as night 1 of 3 of the Renaissance World Tour began at the Sofi Stadium. Everyone got the Queen’s wardrobe requests as the entire stadium shimmered in their finest silver fashions for the occasion. If you’ve ever seen Beyoncè in concert before, you know that she doesn’t curate an opening act kind of show. With all of the star quality in LA, she switched up her game. Who better to get a crowd warmed up than DJ Khaled himself?

Bringing some of his comrades along for the ride, Khaled summoned 2Chainz to the stage to perform an ode to the Virgos with Birthday Song. There were also performances and appearances from Wiz Khalifa, Roddy Ricch, Coi Leray, Offset, and the legendary Lil Wayne. Due to technical difficulties, Weezy wasn’t able to perform his track but he showed his gratitude for being a part of the set nonetheless.

At 8:56 P.M. the screen changed to read Beyonce with a stunning photo of the songstress. The bee-hive began to rush to find their seats as this was the cue that the Renaissance was about to begin. Appearing from the clouds in the black drop in a black suede dress with diamond-crusted flowers as her breastplate she serenaded the crowd with her first solo single Dangerously In Love. After performing just one song the Renaissance Founder received a one-minute-long standing ovation from her fans. Continuing to set the tone for the musical journey ahead she finished Act One with Flaws and All, 1+1, I Care, and River Deep Mountain High as a dedication to Tina Turner.

In the next act, she dived into her Renaissance bag and changed into her finest silver fashions with a pink floor-length mink - because make it fashion! This set began with a clip of her cameo on Lift Off mixed into 7/11 where the Les Twins commanded the stage to do what they do best, entertain! The crowd on night 1 set the bar high for the two upcoming shows as the Sofi Stadium went completely mute during Beyonce’s performance of Energy. With the crowd's energy at an all-time high and Mrs.Carter feeling herself, she stopped to give the crowd an important message.

The mic is warm.

Warm it was. Her live vocals are astonishing and remained in tune and on point the entire night. As the show moved into the opulence phase the hive anticipated the arrival of the prodigal Blue Ivy Carter who did not disappoint. It is clear that Blu is finding her comfort zone being on the big stage. This might have been her best performance yet! Making her exit with her signature heart hands and sassy walk, the crowd cheered her on with great support and excitement.

Beyoncè’s latest materpiece Renaissance displays her creative genius and versatility on all levels. She put it all on the floor giving the audience everything they’ve been craving including Thique, All Up In Your Mind, and the Dubai rendition of Drunk In Love. The night ended with Queen Bee floating on a silver horse above the crowd giving us vocal heaven with Summer Renaissance

Just two days away from her 42nd birthday Beyoncè is continously working and making history. After 26 years in the game, she continues to raise the bar for artists and performers with every tour. Whether you were a fan of the Renaissance album or not, this tour has something for Beyonce fans of every era that is unforgettable. She will hit the stage on September 2nd and again on her birthday September 4th at the Sofi Stadium in Los Angeles. Which night do you think will get the best show?

On Friday, August 25, 2023, Victoria Monet, had the most lit album release party. Located at the Sunset Room in Los Angeles, Victoria had the venue turned into a real-life Safari. With the hottest celebrities as we know it, such as Kelly Rowland, Cardi B, Ryan Destiny, Keith Powers, Ella Mae, JoJo, and many more in attendance. The listening party was a vibe- from the support of Amazon music to the genuineness of her family and friends.

The love that filled the room was insanely unreal. Let’s just say Victoria knows how to throw a party. The celebrities had their sections in VIP with bottles of Tres Generaciones tequila. The DJ @kittysayword was bumpin’ all of that ‘Jaguar II’ singer’s many classics, as well as songs that she wrote for other artists. Not limited to all of your favorite Arianna Grande songs, Do It by Chloe and Halle, On The Way by Jhene Aiko, and the list goes on.

Victoria Monet and Lucky Daye celebrate the release of ‘Jaguar II’.

As for the food, the guests for the event were provided vegan and meat options such as tuna tartare tacos, hamburgers, garlic fries, sweet potato taquitos, and a unique spin on beef fajita tacos. With an open bar, the drinks never ran out meaning that the listening party easily became a singing party. The night ended with a blast of acapella “on my mama” voices. Victoria was grinning from ear to ear. I know this was a night to remember. Make sure give ‘Jaguar II’ a spin available on all streaming platforms now. The project will speak volumes to your soul.
