Help Support Actor, Stuntman, and Former Jackson State Linebacker Willie “Trae” Bell III After a Devastating Accident

Willie “Trae” Bell III’s loved ones are rallying support after the actor, stuntman, and former Jackson State linebacker was severely injured in a devastating car accident that has left him facing a long, uncertain road to recovery! We discuss it here!

By: Omar Cook

On Wednesday, October 15, in West Chicago, life changed in an instant for Willie “Trae” Bell III. While sitting at a red light, Willie was struck by a distracted driver traveling more than 50 miles per hour — a driver who never looked up, never slowed down, and never hit the brakes.

The impact was catastrophic.

Willie spent several days in the ICU and remains hospitalized. He is currently battling blurred and double vision, a concussion, memory loss, and paralysis on the left side of his body from the neck down — symptoms that doctors are still working tirelessly to understand and treat. His journey has already been marked by medical setbacks and moments of uncertainty, but through it all, the one thing that has never wavered is Willie’s fight.

After being released to an inpatient rehabilitation facility, Willie’s recovery took a frightening turn. On his very first day of rehab, he was rushed back to the emergency room. Doctors discovered blood clots in both lungs — a life-threatening complication that has paused his rehab and forced him back into acute medical care.

The battle continues. And yet, if you know Willie, you know he is a warrior. As his family shared, “God gives his hardest battles to his strongest soldiers.” All prayers, support, and shares are deeply appreciated as he fights for full healing.

Willie Bell III is more than an actor and stuntman — he is a creative force, a father, a fiancé, and a proud HBCU legacy.

A former Jackson State University linebacker and #THEE FIRST third-generation linebacker from his family to play at JSU, Willie brought the same discipline, commitment, and passion from the field into his entertainment career. He built a name for himself as a stunt actor, stunt coordinator, and motion capture athlete with EA Sports, contributing to blockbuster video game franchises like Madden and NCAA.

Off the field and off the set, Willie is a devoted family man. He and his fiancée are planning their wedding for early 2026. Just three weeks before the accident, they welcomed their newborn son, Willie Bell IV, joining their two other beautiful children. Their home should be overflowing with joy right now — but instead, they are fighting through fear, uncertainty, and financial strain.

How You Can Help

Willie faces months of recovery, and during that time, he will be unable to work. His family is now carrying the weight of medical bills, lost income, and the cost of necessary rehabilitation and long-term care.

To support him, his family has set a fundraising goal of $100,000, which will help cover:

  • Ongoing medical treatments

  • Rehabilitation and therapy

  • Loss of income during recovery

  • Transportation and accessibility needs

  • Essential living and family expenses

Every dollar helps lighten the load. Every share helps amplify this call for support. Every prayer helps strengthen his spirit.

If you are able, please consider supporting Willie’s recovery by donating or sharing his GoFundMe link:

Standing Together for Willie

Willie “Trae” Bell III has spent his life pushing limits — on the field, in the industry, and as a father. Now, he needs a community behind him as he fights for mobility, stability, and life beyond this traumatic moment.

Your support — big or small — helps his family breathe a little easier and gives Willie the chance to focus on what matters most: healing, returning to his passion, and getting back home to his children.

Thank you for standing with Willie.
Thank you for praying for his complete healing.
Thank you for helping carry him through this fight.

Academy Award winning director Jordan Peele, known for his hit films Get Out and Nope, has a new documentary coming to Peacock later this month. Highlighting the history of Black cowboys while also challenging the whitewashed mythology surrounding cowboy culture. “High Horse: The Black Cowboy” is a three part doc that confronts and reclaims the "Wild West" while exploring the largely untold history of the Black cowboy.

I’m grateful to Monkeypaw for amplifying the powerful voices and long-standing culture of Black cowboys and cowgirls through High Horse: The Black Cowboy, on Peacock. Their history is inseparable from the story of our country and this project aims to honor and celebrate their lasting legacy.
— Jordan Peele

The documentary will feature original interviews from Peele, rapper Blanco Brown, queen of blaxploitation movies Pam Grier, model Lori Harvey, rapper Rick Ross, the Los Angeles-based youth outreach group The Compton Cowboys and Houston's own Bun B and Tina Knowles. Jason Perez served as director for the documentary, while R&B and soul legend Raphael Saadiq composed the score.

Bun B, a Houston icon and a major figure in southern hip-hop, has been headlining the Houston Rodeo's Black Heritage Night as of late. Which has become a large celebration of Black cowboy culture.

Tina Knowles has long been an outspoken defender of her daughter Beyonce's trek into country music, highlighting the history of Black cowboys and Black contributions to country music, and her own upbringing in Galveston, Texas, and her Louisiana Creole heritage.

We have always celebrated cowboy culture growing up in Texas. When people ask why is Beyonce wearing cowboy hats? It’s really funny, I actually laugh because it’s been there since she was a kid, we went to rodeos every year and my whole family dressed in western fashion.
— Tina Knowles via IG in response to Cowboy Carter critics

“High Horse: The Black Cowboy” will premiere exclusively on Peacock, Thursday, November 20th.

When Icons Fall: Black Celebrity Deaths and the Weight of Collective Grief

The death of Black celebrities like Malcolm-Jamal Warner, Chadwick Boseman, and Michael Jackson hits deeply within the Black community, representing more than fame—they embody legacy, identity, and collective memory. We discuss it here!

Malcolm-Jamal Warner

LOS ANGELES – JAN 27 – Malcolm-Jamal Warner attended the premiere of The People v. O.J. Simpson: American Crime Story on January 27, 2016, in Westwood, California.

By: Jamila Gomez

When a beloved Black celebrity dies, it hits differently. It’s not just the loss of a public figure. It’s the loss of a cultural anchor, a mirror, a thread in the fabric of how we see ourselves and what we hold on to. In a world where Black life is too often devalued or dismissed, Black celebrity becomes more than fame—it becomes legacy, affirmation, and, in many ways, survival.

The death of Malcolm-Jamal Warner in July 2025 sent shockwaves through Black communities. He wasn’t just Theo from The Cosby Show; he was a symbol of what Black boyhood and manhood could look like—sensitive, curious, human. For many, he was the first representation of a Black son or brother who was allowed to grow and make mistakes without being criminalized or erased. His passing stirred more than sadness; it stirred memory. It brought people back to living rooms filled with laughter and Black family love in a time when positive representation was rare.

The grief felt after a Black celebrity dies often reopens wounds that go beyond the individual. When Chadwick Boseman passed in 2020, the pain was global. But for Black folks, especially Black children, it cut deep. He was our superhero. A king. An embodiment of grace and strength and quiet resilience. His death reminded us of how many of our heroes have to fight battles in silence. It reminded us that even in celebration, we are not exempt from pain.

Michael Jackson’s death in 2009 brought a different kind of mourning—one that tangled nostalgia with complexity. He was a generational force, a sound, a style, a rhythm that shaped Black childhoods and dance floors for decades. But he also carried the weight of being both idolized and torn apart. His passing sparked conversations about trauma, exploitation, and what happens to Black genius under a white-hot spotlight.

These moments are never just about fame. They are about how deeply we are connected to those who manage to rise and represent us in spaces we weren’t always allowed to occupy. Their deaths remind us of our own mortality, our own fight, our need to hold one another a little tighter.

In mourning them, we mourn the parts of ourselves they carried. We revisit the joy they gave us, the pride they stirred, and the pain we still carry. Their loss becomes a shared reckoning—with our history, our visibility, and our future.

Starz Announces New Installment to Power Universe with the Prequel, Power:Origins

By: Joshua Martin

Starz officially announced its plans to proceed with its next installment in the Power universe. A prequel, Power: Origins will center around Ghost and Tommy as young hustlers determined to make a name in the streets of New York City. The premiere is set to begin with 18 episodes and Mekai Curtis, star of Power Book III: Raising Kanan, will return as Kanan Stark.

“I’m excited to continue to explore the origin stories of the PowerUniverse’s founding fathers. Ghost and Tommy’s backstories have fueled years of constant fascination and speculation among fans, and I’m thrilled to be able to answer some long-held questions and share new layers of the story that viewers won’t see coming.” - Sascha Penn, showrunner, writer and executive producer, via statement.

“Our fans have been asking for Ghost and Tommy’s origins story since we first met them in Power — and with the launch of this series, we’re delivering in a big way. This marks an electrifying new chapter in the franchise’s evolution as we dive deep into the legacy of these iconic characters and the explosive moments that shaped their path.” - Kathryn Busby, President of Original Programming for STARZ

Michael Rainey Jr. in Power Book II: Ghost

The recent news comes ahead of the final season of Power Book IV: Force and follows the conclusion of Raising Kanan’s explosive fourth season. Power Book II: Ghost ended in 2024 but Michael Rainey Jr. has teased his reprisal in the future.

“However that happens — whether it is a little baby picture in Origins — I’m happy to bring Tariq to the screen for the people. So however that may be [possible],” he told PEOPLE in October 2024. “The [Power] universe, our universe never ends. We got Origins coming… It never ends.” - Michael Rainey Jr. via PEOPLE magazine in October 2024

It is currently unclear if Omari Hardwick and Joseph Sikora will return for Origins but Sikora has expressed interest in narrating. Similar to how 50 Cent does for Raising Kanan.

2025 BET Awards

By: Joshua Martin

The 2025 BET Awards was a powerful celebration of legacy, evolution and cultural dominance. Held at the Peacock Theater in Los Angeles on Sunday, June 9th, BET marked three monumental milestones. 45 years of the network, 25 years of the BET Awards and 25 years since the debut of 106 & Park, the iconic music countdown show that defined a generation.

Hosted by comedy legend Kevin Hart, the event opened with a mix of laughter and nostalgia. The iconic comedic actor paid homage to BET for playing a major role in the early stages of his career.

BET was the first to put a spotlight on voices like mine. To stand here tonight, decades later, is a full circle moment.
— Kevin Hart, BET Awards

Terrence J, Pretty Vee, LaToya Luckett, Jacob Lattimore, Mouse Jones, and Jessie Woo co-hosted the red carpet, which doubled as a celebration of past and present. The crowd was treated to performances by rising stars like Jordan Adetunji, Rob49, Honey Bxby and others.

The main show delivered a lineup stacked with some of the biggest names in music. From Ashanti and Mýa to Bow Wow and Jermaine Dupri, to current stars like GloRilla, Leon Thomas, and Playboi Carti.

Kendrick Lamar led the night with 10 nominations and took home 5 awards, including Album of the Year and Video of the Year. Doechii took home female artist of the year and in a powerful acceptance speech addressed recent national protests.

There are ruthless attacks that are creating fear and chaos in our communities in the name of law and order. Trump is using military forces to stop a protest. We all deserve to live in hope and not in fear.
— Doechii, BET Awards

Later in the evening, Jamie Foxx, Mariah Carey, Snoop Dogg, and Kirk Franklin were each honored for their cultural impact across music, film, and faith. Foxx, reflected on his near death health scare, giving an emotional speech that reminded everyone of the fragility of life and the power of second chances.

When I saw the memoriam, I was like, Man, that could’ve been me. I don’t know why I went through what I went through, but my second chance, I won’t turn it down.
— Jamie Foxx, BET Awards

The Weeknd real name “Abel Tesfaye” has officially delivered a trailer for his upcoming film, “Hurry Up Tomorrow." Named after his massively successful 6th studio album, scenes from the trailer revealed that starring alongside The Weeknd will be Jenna Ortega, (Scream Franchise, Wednesday, You) and Barry Keoghan (Saltburn and Dunkirk). Directed by Trey Edward Shults, the teaser shows the audience an eerie, unsettling world where nothing appears to be what it seems.

Hurry Up Tomorrow (2025) Official Trailer – Abel Tesfaye, Jenna Ortega, Barry Keoghan

Set to release on May 16th, fans are met with an alternate version of The Weeknd coming to terms with his time as an entertainer. Keoghan appears in the trailer, seeming to be a close friend while Ortega is determined on destroying the pop star's persona.

As per the official description for the film, “Hurry Up Tomorrow” follows, “a musician plagued by insomnia [who] is pulled into an odyssey with a stranger who begins to unravel the very core of his existence.” While the film’s main character is a successful pop star like Abel, it's more so a loose interpretation of the artist’s time in the limelight.

An artist, you could say, on the verge of a mental breakdown…He meets this woman, and they go on this odyssey together. It’s a mix of psychological thriller and drama. I honestly feel like I’ve never seen a movie quite like it.
— Trey Edward Shults, Entertainment Weekly

The Lionsgate film features The Weeknd, Shults and Reza Fahim as co-writers for the film. Kevin Turen, Harrison Kreiss will join them as producers. Ortega and Shultz have been linked as executive producers.

Check out the trailer above.
