NBA Season Tip-Off 2025: Why the Thunder Are Still the Team to Beat

The 2025–26 NBA season tips off with star-studded matchups and major storylines, as Shai Gilgeous-Alexander leads the Thunder’s title defense, Cooper Flagg eyes Rookie of the Year, Victor Wembanyama chases MVP, and Luka Doncic begins his Lakers era. We discuss it here!

NBA Teams Get Set To Kickoff an Exciting 2025 Season

By: Joshua Martin

After a long offseason, 120 days to be exact, the NBA returns tonight with two marquee matchups featuring MVP Shai Gilgeous-Alexander of the Oklahoma City Thunder, Kevin Durant and the “Tall Ball” lineup of the Houston Rockets, the greatest shooter off all time Steph Curry of the Golden State Warriors and Luka Doncic of the Lakers who will start the season without Lebron for the first month. As excitement continues to mount on what will be an excellent season, we break down key story lines, player of the year predictions and who will secure the Larry O’Brien trophy. Let's talk ball!

As the 2025 - 26 season tips off, the landscape of the NBA is poised for drama, youth and seismic shifts. According to consensus power rankings, the defending champion Oklahoma City Thunder remain the clear cut favorite. ESPN projects them at 57.8 wins as the top team entering the season. And honestly, I’m picking the Thunder once again to hoist the Larry O’Brien trophy.

The Thunder’s core is still loaded, their defence is still top in the league and their youth and depth give them a strong foundation to repeat.

We do everything together on and off the court. Above all we prioritize winning and enjoy each other’s company.
— Shai Gilgeous-Alexander on his team’s chemistry and success

Meanwhile, my bold predictions include rookie of the year going to Cooper Flagg and Victor Wembanyama taking the next step to superstardom and earning his first MVP.

Flagg enters the league with sky high expectations and is clearly on the rookie of the year radar. With a solid core of veterans surrounding him, Flagg is in a great position to succeed early on. According to most, this is a stacked rookie class and he is named among the top. I believe his readiness and impact level make him the candidate to watch.

Wembanyama, meanwhile, has been spotlighted in projections as a potential league changer. For example, many outlets list him as a frontrunner for MVP as the game’s next generational two way talent. My prediction is that Wembanyama seizes that leap and consolidates himself as one of the very top stars.

On the other side of the equation, I expect the Los Angeles Lakers, now with Luka Doncic firmly installed in year two as the franchise centerpiece, to make a meaningful leap. His leadership, talent and renewed reputation make this Lakers team better in Year 2 of the Luka era, even if the championship remains just a tad bit out of reach.

Finally, I’m predicting a major shake up involving Giannis Antetokounmpo. With talk swirling about his future, he expressed sentiments to the media.

I’m locked into this team… But things can change.
— Giannis Atekounmpo, Bucks Forward

While he hasn’t formally requested a trade, the trade speculation is real. My prediction is a move happens, opening the door for Wembanyama’s ascension and re-ordering of the elite teams and players.

In summation, I expect the Thunder to win it, Flagg to earn ROY, Wembanyama becomes MVP, Lakers get better under Luka and Giannis gets traded. It’s a season of transition, surprise and the next wave stars. Get your popcorn ready!

— Dwight Howard

Moore, who retired early to focus on criminal justice reform, challenged future players to find joy in the game.

2025 NBA Draft Preview

The 2025 NBA Draft, featuring top prospects like Cooper Flagg and Dylan Harper, promises one of the most unpredictable and talent-rich classes in recent memory with major storylines, and rising international stars. We discuss it here!

2025 NBA Draft

By: Joshua Martin

As the 2025 NBA Draft approaches tonight in Brooklyn, this year’s class is shaping up to be one of the most talented and unpredictable groups in recent memory. At the center of attention is Cooper  Flagg, the 6′9″ versatile forward from Duke and the consensus number one pick to the Mavericks. He’s widely regarded as a “generational talent.” A level of hype not seen since LeBron James. After averaging 19.2 points and 7.5 rebounds during his freshman campaign, James emphasized Flagg’s versatility. Adding his excitement to see Flagg on the veteran led Mavericks squad.

“He has the benefit, unlike myself, he gets to join a team that’s established with Hall of Fame guys… I think he’s going to be amazing.” - LeBron James via Mind the Game podcast

He has the benefit, unlike myself, he gets to join a team that’s established with Hall of Fame guys… I think he’s going to be amazing.
— LeBron James via Mind the Game podcast

Flagg has consistently shown a rare maturity for his age. Scouts rave about his two way game. Some draw comparisons to Jayson Tatum and early Kawhi Leonard, though a few feel he might fall just short of transcendent superstardom. Yet LeBron James and others believe he’s fully ready for NBA impact.

Rutgers guards

Ranking behind Flagg is Dylan Harper, the Rutgers guard viewed as the consensus No. 2 overall pick. His physical strength and court vision mark him as a future lead guard. Though his shaky perimeter game has some scouts cautious.

Once considered a top three pick, Ace Bailey, has provided the necessary drama before the draft. The former Rutgers star guard has turned down pre draft workouts and has shown a reluctance to play for Philadelphia. Bailey would prefer a rebuilding team like Washington, New Orleans, or Brooklyn according to reports. That uncertainty has created a ripple effect, potentially shifting the top four picks.

Other notable prospects include V.J. Edgecombe, Baylor’s athletic guard forward from the Bahamas. Edgecombe averaged 15.0 points and 5.6 rebounds in his freshman year and is perfect for a team eyeing speed, athleticism and perimeter defense.

Tre Johnson, a 6’6” guard from Texas, is renowned for his 40% 3 point accuracy and 87% free throw percentage. He is locked in between the 4th and 6th picks on many mocks, yet some analysts question his finishing around the rim.

Center Khaman Maluach and forward Kon Knueppel, both from Duke, continue to climb draft boards due to their combination of size and skill from the post. International prospects like Noa Essengue (Ulm, Germany) and Nolan Traoré (France) are considered top 25 talents, though they missed the Combine while competing overseas.

This draft blends generational upside, intrigue and strong depth across wings and bigs. With uncertainty swirling around Bailey and international standouts gaining traction, tonight could feature dramatic trades or surprises. Whether it’s Flagg rising to superstardom or Bailey’s audacious gambit unraveling, 2025 promises to be one of the most compelling and unpredictable drafts in years.

The popular studio show will now appear on ESPN and ABC at the beginning of the 2025-2026 NBA season. This news comes after a settlement between Warner Bros. Discovery and the NBA was finalized early Monday morning. TNT Sports will continue to produce the show and it will air from Atlanta, except for when the show goes on the road.

“Inside the NBA” is expected to air during key moments on the league’s calendar, including opening week, Christmas Day games, Saturday night primetime games during the second half of the season, the playoffs and the NBA Finals.

The opportunity to continue the iconic and Emmy Award-winning ‘Inside the NBA’ is a huge win for basketball fans everywhere. We look forward to building on our longstanding partnership with TNT Sports and working together to promote NBA content across key WBD and NBA platforms.
— Adam Silver, NBA Commissioner

The new settlement gives TNT Sports, Bleacher Report and House of Highlights a global license for NBA content with no rights fee for the next 11 years. Warner Bros. Discovery will also continue its relationship with the league’s digital operations, including NBA.com, for five more seasons. Even though TNT Sports will not be airing games in the United States beginning next season, it does have rights to air a full package of games in select countries, including Latin America (excluding Brazil and Mexico), Poland, Denmark, Finland, Norway and Sweden.

Together these agreements ensure fans will continue to enjoy TNT’s ‘Inside the NBA’ and create tremendous value for our entire portfolio as we accelerate the growth of TNT Sports, Bleacher Report, House of Highlights and our global sports business. We are pleased to partner with the NBA and Disney/ESPN, and to have solidified long-term rights and revenue for WBD.
— David Zaslav, Warner Bros. Discovery CEO

“Inside the NBA” started in 1989, the same year TNT started broadcasting NBA games. Barkley joined the show in 2000 while O’Neal came aboard during the 2011-2012 season. The humor and insight the NBA legends bring to the game of basketball has made the program a fan favorite and the recipient of 21 Emmy awards since its inception.

ESPN will continue to produce “NBA Countdown” and “NBA Today,” which will continue to run during the network’s regular season NBA coverage. Malika Andrews will continue to host both programs.

Bron and Bronny Share the Court as King James Reflects on a Special Moment

LeBron and Bronny James made NBA history as the first father-son duo to share the court during the Lakers' win over the Timberwolves, creating an unforgettable moment in their basketball journey. We discuss it here!

Los Angeles Lakers superstar LeBron James has created countless memories over his legendary 22 year NBA career but sharing the court with his son Bronny during Tuesday night’s victory over the Minnesota Timberwolves might be the one that stands out from the rest. LeBron and Bronny became the first father-son duo in NBA history to appear in a game together with 4:00 left in the second quarter.

That moment, us being at the scorer’s table together and checking in together, something I will never forget. No matter how old I get, no matter how my memory may fade as I get older or whatever, I will never forget that moment.
— Lebron James, postgame interview

Bronny, the 55th pick of last year’s draft, said sharing the floor with his dad made playing in his first career NBA game even more memorable. The two of them almost had a moment when Lebron passed the ball to Bronny on the wing for a wide-open three pointer but unfortunately the 20 year old’s jumper did not fall.

I tried not to focus on everything that was going on around me and tried to focus on going in as a rookie and not trying to mess up. But yeah, I totally did feel the energy, and I appreciate the Laker Nation for showing the support for me and my dad.
— Bronny James, postgame interview

Bronny went scoreless in his NBA debut and secured only one rebound, while his dad tallied 16 points, five rebounds and four assists in the victory. Anthony Davis led the way for the Lakers on opening night with 36 points, 16 rebounds and three blocks.

This is the first time we had a LeBron moment that was something huge and we won. Every other thing we’ve always lost, so it kind of kills the moment. But it was a special moment for everybody.
— Anthony Davis, postgame interview

The Lakers will look to keep the positive momentum going as the season progresses. Their next game is Friday at Crypto.com Arena versus Kevin Durant and the Phoenix Suns.

Jayson Tatum Secures Largest Contract In NBA History With Extension From Celtics

Jayson Tatum makes NBA history with a groundbreaking $314 million contract extension from the Boston Celtics, securing his future with the team shortly after their 18th championship win. We discuss it here!

Jayson Tatum Secures Largest Contract In NBA History With Extension From Celtics

By: Joshua Martin

Just days after winning their league-leading 18th title, the Boston Celtics took little time ensuring fans that Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown will be in Boston for the foreseeable future. Despite not winning Finals MVP, Tatum now can claim the distinct honor of having the richest contract in NBA history. The new 5 year deal worth a record $314 million, overtakes his teammate and Finals MVP Jaylen Brown’s $285 million deal, which at the time was the richest in league history.

Tatum was a force this season despite being highly scrutinized. During the Celtics impressive playoff run he averaged 25 points, just under 10 rebounds, and six assists per game. Adding veteran pieces such as Jrue Holiday and Kristaps Porzingis to an already talented roster increased the pressure to win a championship. After years of coming up short, they finally got the job done against the Dallas Mavericks in a convincing 5 games.

BOSTON CELTICS ARE YOUR 2024 NBA CHAMPIONS 🏆 | 2024 NBA Finals

Tatum’s career accolades include a championship, a new record setting deal, 3 straight First Team All-NBA selections and 5 straight All-Star selections. Not bad before the age of 26.

Next season, the Celtics look to win back-to-back championships for the first time since the 2017 and 2018 Golden State Warriors. They will once again have a talented core after resigning guard Derrick White to a new deal also. Even with Kristaps on the mend, and inevitable age and regression, this Celtics team looks like they will be a thorn in the side of all NBA teams for years to come.

Lakers Draft Bronny James, Creating First Father-Son Duo in NBA History

The Los Angeles made history by selecting Bronny James in the second round of this year’s NBA draft, becoming the first team to potentially have a father-son duo play in the league. We discuss it here!

This year’s NBA Draft may go down as one of the most memorable drafts of all time. Not only did we see a plethora of potential stars walk across the stage but in the second round at pick number 55, The Los Angeles Lakers made history. With the 55th selection the Lakers chose Bronny James, making he and Lebron the first father son duo to play in the league simultaneously.

Multiple videos and stills surfaced of Lebron, Savannah, Bryce and LeBron’s mother, Gloria James, huddling around Bronny as he watched his name get called. The former USC Trojan could be seen wiping away tears as his mother handed him his official Lakers Draft Night hat.

Lakers General Manager Rob Pelinka spoke on this historical moment

In the history of the NBA, there’s never been a father and a son that have shared an NBA basketball court and that feels like something that could be magical. We know, and have to respect of course, that LeBron has a decision on his opt-out…but if it worked out that he was on our team next season, NBA history could be made. And NBA history should be made in a Lakers uniform.
— Rob Pelinka

L.A.’s second superstar Anthony Davis shared similar sentiments. Admitting that Bronny will be fine, highlighting his on court abilities and his willingness to create his own path and not thrive off of the successes of his legendary father.

He’s very good defensively. He can read the floor very well. I think he’s a really good playmaker. I saw him work out a couple times besides the [Klutch Sports] pro day and working with a big — his reads, reading the defense, making the right passes — that was really impressive to me. I think he’s going to be fine, man. But one thing about Bronny, from what I’ve seen and what I heard, he wants to create his own path and he doesn’t want to be — even though he’s LeBron James‘ son, he don’t want be seen as that. And I think having that mindset and trying to create his own path is going to work out for him. … Who knows, he might come in and be ready to play for us.
— Anthony Davis, ESPN

During Bronny’s short collegiate stint at USC, the guard averaged 4.8 points, 2.8 rebounds, and 2.1 assists in 19.4 minutes per game. His playing time and draft stock took a major hit after suffering from a cardiac arrest incident and surgery. His recovery sideland him for almost 5 months, making his basketball career murky at best.

“The Round Mound of Rebound” is officially calling it quits. NBA legend, Charles Barkley, announced last week that the upcoming NBA season will be his last year on television. According to reports, Barkley’s move coincides with the expiration of Warner Bros. Discovery’s media rights deal with the NBA.

“I ain’t going nowhere other than TNT. But I have made the decision that no matter what happens, next year is going to be my last year on television. And I just want to say thank you to my NBA family. You guys have been great to me. My heart is full with joy and gratitude.” - Charles Barkley, NBATV

“I hope the NBA stays with TNT, but for me personally, I wanted you guys to hear it from me. I wanted to tell my NBATV and TNT family that I’m not going to another network, but I’m going to pass the baton to either Jamal Crawford or Vince Carter or you Steve (Smith). But next year, I’m going to just retire after 25 years, and I just wanted to say thank you. And I wanted y’all to hear it from me first.” - Charles Barkley, NBATV

The Alabama native and former NBA MVP joined “Inside the NBA” in 2000 and since has been awarded four Emmys and also earned an induction into the Sports Broadcasting Hall of Fame. His authentic perspective on the game of basketball has garnered national attention on numerous occasions, making him one of the highest-paid announcers in professional sports.

“Charles is a Hall of Famer and a broadcasting icon who is and will always be a beloved member of the TNT Sports family. We’re looking forward to another fantastic NBA on TNT season and further discussion of our future plans with him.” - TNT Sports via statement

Top 10 NBA Backcourts of the Last 25 Years

Let's take a look at the most dominating guard tandems since the turn of the century. Here are the top ten backcourts of the last 25 years!

MADRID, SPAIN - September 14th 2014 : STEPHEN CURRY of USA during the Final game of FIBA BASKETBALL WORLD CUP 2014 at Palacio de los Deportes Arena

By: Joshua Martin

Lately, anytime the Dallas Mavericks are on television, it feels as though there’s a national conversation about the best backcourts in NBA history. And rightfully so! The Luka Doncic and Kyrie Irving pairing is one of the most explosive offensive backcourts the game has ever seen. But are they the best?

We can't forget the Splash Bros. who shattered shooting records during the 2010’s, or the massively successful duo of Kobe Bryant and Derek Fisher. What about Tony Parker and Manu Ginoboli or the Grindhouse Grizzlies with Mike Conley and Tony Allen. Billups and Hamilton, Teague and Korver, CP3 and Harden? There are so many great duos to choose from.

Nothing incites sports fans more than a good ole top ten list. Let's take a look at the most dominating guard tandems since the turn of the century. While there may be an obvious number one, the criteria for this list was simple. Sustained on-court success, whether or not the duo won championships and also the lasting impact the two had on the court were taken into account.

Don't like our list? Let us know!

Honorable Mentions:

Jeff Teague and Kyle Korver: This All star duo led the Hawks to its franchise's only 60 win season before losing in the playoffs to Lebron and the Cavs.

Jason Kidd and Vince Carter: These two were deadly in the open court. VInce’s high flying style blended perfectly with Kidd’s pinpoint passing. Injuries and new blood in the Eastern conference stymied this duo's ascension.

Tony Allen and Mike Conley: Conley is a steady scorer and passesr while Allen became known as one of the scariest defenders in the league. Consistent duo that lacked nationwide exposure.

10.) Chris Paul and James Harden

Their time was short-lived but quite successful. The MVP version of the Beard and the Point God pushed the Golden State Warriors to Game 7 in the 2018 conference finals. If it wasn’t for a CP3 injury this team would’ve advanced to the Finals.

9.) Bradley Beal and John Wall

Oh what could’ve been. Wall’s athleticism and smooth passing skills made him an instant star in Washington. Beal, a sturdy scoring guard with range from deep, made him the perfect complement to Wall’s attacking, downhill style. The injury bug may be the biggest culprit behind why this duo didn't see more success on the court.

8.) Damian Lillard and C.J. McCollum

Another duo that garnered success smack dab in the middle of the Warriors historic run. This duo routinely posted incredible counting stats during the regular season but lacked the critical support to compete with the better teams in the West. A conference finals appearance and the longevity of the run gives them the spot here.

7.) Luka Doncic and Kyrie Irving

Luka is a walking 30 point triple double nuclear time bomb. Kyrie has the smoothest handles in the game and can easily pour in 50 on any given night. These two have enjoyed a stellar playoff run so far. A championship will boost them up this list but until then these other backcourts have won more and played together longer.

MADRID, SPAIN - September 14th 2014 : KYRIE IRVING of USA celebrates scoring during the Final game of FIBA BASKETBALL WORLD CUP 2014 at Palacio de los Deportes Arena

6.) Demar Derozan and Kyle Lowry

These two brought sustained success to a once moribund franchise. Their run unfortunately coincided with Lebron’s historic playoff reign over the Eastern Conference. Lowry, a feisty diminutive point, and Derozan, a mid range dynamo who also excelled at attacking the rim, accrued multiple all star appearances and the led Raptors to the playoffs 5 consecutive times during the 2010’s.

5.) Ray Allen and Rajon Rondo

Rondo was a do-it-all versatile threat while Allen, before Curry, was known as the greatest shooter in league history. Rondo’s strengths and weaknesses made him a perfect fit with Ray. The two went on to win a title with the C’s and carve out impressive Hall of Fame careers.

4.) Chauncey Billups and Richard Hamilton

These two pulled off one the biggest upsets in NBA Finals history. Mr. Big Shot’s clutch play and Rip’s smoothe shooting stroke spearheaded the Bad Boys 2.0 offensive attack during their improbable ‘04 title run. These two led the Pistons to six consecutive conference finals, winning 1 title while in Detroit.

3.) Kobe Bryant and Derek Fisher

These two complementend each other's game perfectly. Kobe was a ball dominant scorer and Fish was more of a spot up shooter. The third ranked duo on the list propelled the Lakers to 5 NBA Titles. Fisher was also a deadly clutch shooter just as much as Kobe. With the game on the line either one could burn you.

Kobe Bryant & Derek Fisher - All We Do Is Win

2.) Tony Parker and Manu Ginobili

Parker and Ginobili were the driving force behind some historic Spurs teams. TP was a tad more consistent but the Spurs were unbeatable when Ginobili went off. This dynamic duo won 4 titles and combined with Duncan made one of the greatest teams of all-time.

1.) Steph Curry and Klay Thompson

The Splash Brothers are widely regarded as the greatest shooting backcourt of all time. There’s no debating that but what makes them greatest period is all the accolades between the two. Steph Curry is a two time MVP, multiple time scoring champion and single handley revolitonzied the game of basketball. Klay is the epitome of a quintessential ‘3 & D wing’ with the range and shooting touch that rivals his backcourt mate. 5 championships and a 73-9 season earns them this spot without question.

Recognized as one of the greatest basketball players, Allen Iverson receives a special tribute from Newport News, Virginia, as they rename 16th Street to 'Allen Iverson Way.' The NBA Hall of Famer will attend the renaming ceremony at Anderson Park on Tuesday, March 5.

AI has been a cultural icon, always true to himself with his braids, tattoos, distinctive clothing style, and outspoken media persona. He refused to conform to societal expectations, forging his own path without caring about criticism – a true pioneer.

Having played 14 seasons in the NBA, Allen Iverson is best remembered for his initial tenure with the Philadelphia 76ers. His noteworthy achievements include winning the MVP award in 2001, the season in which he guided the Sixers to the No. 1 seed in the Eastern Conference and the NBA Finals. Despite a loss to the Los Angeles Lakers in five games, his performance during that playoff run is widely regarded as one of the most impressive in NBA history.

Following his time with the Sixers, Iverson went on to play for the Denver Nuggets, Detroit Pistons, and Memphis Grizzlies, followed by a return to Philadelphia for a season. Afterward, he spent one year playing overseas before officially retiring in 2013.

Iverson concluded his career with 11 All-Star Game appearances, seven All-NBA honors, a 1997 Rookie of the Year trophy, four seasons leading the league in scoring, three seasons topping the league in steals, and recognition on the NBA 75th-anniversary team. Check out some of The Answer’s highlights with the Philadelphia 76ers below.

The moment sports fans have begrudgingly been waiting for has finally happened but not to the destination many of us thought. In a surprising move the Portland Trail Blazers finally parted ways with the organization's brightest star, in a 3 team deal that had the entertainment world buzzing.

Camron and Snoop Dogg offered their thoughts as soon as word of the trade began to circulate.

Going to the East, nephew. Ball out. You got Giannis on your squad now. Ugh! The East just got nasty. Lakers, we know what we gon’ do. But congrats to my nephew, Dame Lillard. Dame Time. Go get yours, nephew.
— Snoop Dogg

The trade officially went down on Wednesday between the Bucks, Portland Trail Blazers, and Phoenix Suns. In exchange for Dame D.O.L.L.A., the Blazers received Jrue Holiday, DeAndre Ayton, Toumani Camara along with future draft picks with many believing Holiday will soon be traded. The Suns received Jusuf Nurkic, Grayson Allen, Nassir Little, and Keon Johnson, all of whom will join a squad that bolsters a roster featuring Kevin Durant, Devin Booker and their latest addition Bradley Beal. In my opinion all three teams made out well, with Milwaukee instantly becoming title favorites.

Lillard joining focus with Giannis Antetokounmpo will mark the first time that two players have joined forces after both averaging 30 points per game the previous season. With arguably the second greatest range shooter of all time paired with the Greek Freak, the upcoming season just got a lot more interesting. It’s very likely the Bucks will snag their second championship in four years.

Damian Lillard leaves Portland after spending his entire NBA career with the organization. Over the past 11 seasons, he powered his squad to eight playoff appearances and one Western Conference Finals appearance during the 2018-2019 season. Dame throughout the years often spoke against jumping ship to join a superteam, opting to remain committed to the Trail Blazers despite not having a real shot at a title.

The athlete/rapper took the on brand approach and addressed the trade in his latest track “Farwell” which dropped immediately after news broke of the trade.

Dame D.O.L.L.A. - Farewell

Dame left it all on the court. Carving out a unique role for himself as an unstoppable efficient range shooter with the ability to facilitate and attack the basket with ease.

In summation, the NBA does an excellent job at remaining in the news cycle year round. This recent deal only intensifies the anticipation for the upcoming season. With the biggest domino finally on the move, even the casual fan can’t help but wonder who’s next? James Harden? Joel Embid? Trae Young? Karl-Anthony Towns? We’ll just have to wait and see.

On August 26th, Legendary West Coast rapper and Entrepreneur Ice Cube brought his BIG3 basketball league to London, where fans of the sport could enjoy the league’s All-Star game. Among the many stars on the court, Boston Celtics All-Star NBA Forward Jaylen Brown made history by joining team “BIG3”. He is the first active NBA player to participate in the increasingly popular 3-on-3 exhibition. Brown recently made headlines for signing the largest contract in NBA history, a 5-year, $304 million supermax extension with the Boston Celtics.

Before his appearance on the court, Ice Cube took to Twitter to show his appreciation for Brown while also explaining to his followers the magnitude of his participation.

He played well but not well enough to help his team secure the win. The All-Star tallied up nine points, five rebounds, and two assists in a 51-42 loss against the opposing squad led by Jodie Meeks, Gerald Green, and Jason Richardson.

In a brief interview, Brown was asked his reason behind playing in the game.

Having some fun with charity, giving back to the community, and supporting, that’s it. It’s amazing being in this environment. Shout out to London, shout out to the O2 Arena. Excited to give back to charity, excited to be a part of this, and I appreciate you, Ice Cube.
— Jaylen Brown

Cube then followed up with another take on Brown’s participation.

I was blown away. I asked him if was he sure he wanted to make this move. He was like, ‘Yo, I wanna do this for the game, for the players, and it’s a big move for the league.
— Ice Cube

The BIG3 league comprises mostly retired and former NBA players on their rosters. Brown’s involvement with the league may open the door for more active players to do the same.

Jaylen Brown had a breakout season with the Boston Celtics earning him the richest contract in NBA History

By: Omar Cook

Jaylen Brown, star forward of the Boston Celtics, is set to make NBA history with a massive contract. His agent, Jason Glushon, confirmed that Brown has agreed to sign a five-year, supermax extension worth a staggering $304 million, making it the richest deal ever in NBA history. This lucrative extension became possible for Brown after he earned All-NBA Second Team honors for the 2022-23 season.

The jaw-dropping extension will take effect in the 2024-25 season, where Brown will earn an unprecedented $52.4 million, setting a new record for the highest single-season salary for any NBA player. In the final year of the contract, Brown's earnings will reach an astonishing $69.1 million.

This remarkable deal surpasses the previous record holder, Nikola Jokic, who secured a $276 million extension in 2022. Notably, Brown's contract also includes a guaranteed trade kicker, although he had to forgo the typical player option that stars usually have in their final year under contract to receive this exceptional compensation.

Throughout the early months of the summer, it wasn't always certain that Jaylen Brown's new contract with the Boston Celtics would come to fruition. However, the new deal has now been confirmed, keeping the forward in Celtic green until the 2028-29 season.

Brown recently had the best season of his career, boasting impressive averages of 26.6 points, 6.9 rebounds, and 3.5 assists. His outstanding performance earned him an All-Star selection and a spot in the All-NBA Second Team.

Despite his performance, Celtics fans questioned Brown’s ability to fit in with star All-NBA forward Jayson Tatum. The Celtics failed to make a return to the NBA Finals this past season causing fans and analysts to actively pushing for a trade involving Jaylen Brown. However, historical data suggests that the Brown-Tatum duo is arguably one of the most formidable one-two punches in the NBA currently.

During the previous season, the duo combined for an impressive 56.7 points per game, ranking as the fourth-highest scoring duo since the 1976-77 merger, according to ESPN Stats & Information.

Kyrie Irving Signs Shoe Deal with Chinese Sportswear Company ANTA

Kyrie Irving secures lucrative deals, including a $126 million contract extension and a groundbreaking five-year shoe endorsement, showcasing his expertise in basketball and business. We discuss it here!

Earlier today July 12th, Kyrie Irving made an announcement on his Instagram Stories, revealing a new collaboration with Chinese sportswear company ANTA. Renowned journalist Shams Charania reported that the shoe endorsement agreement with the global brand will extend for five years and encompasses the special role of chief creative officer. The terms of the deal were reportedly negotiated through Irving's management entity A11Even.

In December 2022, Nike ended its partnership with Irving after he faced allegations of antisemitism due to sharing a controversial book on social media. This incident caused a rift between Irving and the Brooklyn Nets, ultimately resulting in his transfer to the Dallas Mavericks in February. Since then, Irving has issued an apology to the Jewish community for his actions. “To all Jewish families and communities that are hurt and affected from my post, I am deeply sorry to have caused you pain, and I apologize,” In his Instagram statement, he expressed at that moment. “I initially reacted out of emotion to being unjustly labeled antisemitic, instead of focusing on the healing process of my Jewish brothers and sisters that were hurt from the hateful remarks made in the documentary.”

The announcement coincides with Irving's recent contract extension with the Mavericks, a confirmed three-year deal worth $126 million according to the NBA. In an interview with The Dallas Morning News, team owner Mark Cuban elaborated on the organization's rationale behind retaining the NBA champion.

“I think Kyrie’s just misunderstood, you know,” Cuban said. “Everybody sees all the noise and everything around him, but when you actually talk to him, I like him. You know, he’s just, he’s open, he’s smart. You know, he’s always looking to learn things and to me, you know, he’s an interesting guy that’s just misunderstood… Kidd and I made the effort to really get to know him.”

Say what you want about Kyrie Irving, but he is making major moves in his career, securing a $126 million, three-year contract extension with the Dallas Mavericks and a groundbreaking five-year shoe endorsement deal with ANTA. Which he negotiated the deals himself and now holds a position of creative control within the company, allowing him to recruit future athletes to the brand. Irving's accomplishments highlight his expertise in both basketball and the business world.

The Next Generation of NBA Stars Find New Homes

Exciting NBA draft with major trades and standout prospects, including Victor Wembanyama as the top pick, sets the stage for team improvements and sparks intrigue for the coming season. We discuss it here!

This may be the most entertaining draft we've had in some time. Trades galore leading up to draft night already had organizations putting together plans to improve their teams now and for the future. Marcus Smart now plays for the Grizzlies, CP3 is now a Warrior, Jordan Poole was shipped off to the Wizards and Kristaps Porzingis is officially a Boston Celtic. That’s a lot of moves. Despite the moving of well established, big name players, the NBA Draft is all about the young guys and this year there was a clear no-brainer for the number 1 pick.

Victor Wembanyama is a once in a lifetime prospect and was the clear favorite to go to the Spurs at 1. Wemby is a freak of nature, standing at 7’5” with a 8 foot wingspan he is the most highly touted incoming player since Lebron James. He may not turn the Spurs into a playoff team in his first year but he couldn't have found himself in a more perfect situation. In San Antonio, he will play and learn from one the greatest coaches of all time in Greg Poppavich and he will get plenty of opportunities to showcase his skills on a squad that's in desperate need of a talent influx, thus the number 1 pick. As a player comp, I can see him evolving into a more durable Porzingis with a lot more ball skills and shot creation. He also has the potential to become a defensive force, If he can add bulk to an otherwise wiry frame, the Spurs may be adding more championship banners to the 5 they already have.

Wemby may have dominated the pre draft headlines but this draft was about more than one prospect. To round out the top five, the Charlotte Hornets selected versatile forward Brandon Miller at 2, the uber athletic point guard Scoot Henderson went to the Portland Trail Blazers at 3, the Houston Rockets and Detroit Pistons selected two twin brothers, Amen and Ausar Thompson, with the 4th and 5th picks respectively. Despite not being known for putting the ball in the basket, both brothers are long and rangy. The game has changed so much that non shooting perimeter players really don't have a place in the modern NBA but both have the propensity to transform into legit defensive stoppers.

Biggest Winners

Mavericks

The Mavericks started off a successful draft night by moving the horrendous Davis Bertans contract, drafting Duke center Dereck Lively II at 12 overall and acquiring former Sacramento Kings big man Richaun Holmes. The Mavs are winners because they were able to gain a little bit of cap flexibility and address some of their defensive woes with the selection of LIvely II, a mobile big man with size and the potential to become a defensive player of the year winner.

Washington Wizards

Gone are Bradley Beal, Kristaps Porzingis. In are former NBA champion Jordan Poole, Tyus Jones, a bunch of mid level veterans and a slew of draft picks. The Wizards selected forward Bilal Coulibaly with the 7th overall pick, a defensive stopper with obvious holes in his offensive repertoire. Many may look at this as a reach but the Wizards are allowed to take a few risks, especially since they have fully embraced a rebuild that was long overdue.

Biggest Losers

It's hard to label teams as losers on a night filled with so much hope and promise. However there are two squads that left their fan bases with more questions than answers.

The OKC Thunder had a whooping 17 1st round picks over the next 3 years heading into last night's draft. Despite a solid pick at 10 with guard Cason Wallace. Oklahoma City fans have to wonder if they are facing a forever rebuild. Shai is an ALL NBA type of talent and most teams will try to find veteran stars to maximize the talent of the younger players. Not the Thunder who seem to be adamant at stockpiling assets without actually cashing them in. Acquiring high valued prospects is never a bad thing but eventually OKC needs to make a move that will put them in serious playoff contention before they miss their window to improve in a always competitive Western conference.

The Portland Trail Blazers took the best available prospect at 3 with their selection of Scoot Henderson but Dame Lillard has explicitly announced he doesn't plan on waiting on younger players to develop. He wants to win now and not any of the moves the organization has made this offseason has made that dream a reality.

I don’t have much of an appetite for bringing in guys two and three years away from really going after it.
— Damian Lillard

Calling the Trail Blazers losers may be a little misguided but one cant help but wonder, “What are they going to do?” With rumors swirling, the Blazers could have appeased both Dame and Blazers fans with a draft day trade. I mean it's not like they didn't have the assets. The Blazers are at a crossroads and will be quite interesting to see how it all unfolds in the coming months.

All in all, The Victor Wembenya era starts now. Good luck rookies, we will be watching!!

LeBron James is widely recognized as one of the greatest basketball players of all time. But his impact extends far beyond the basketball court. In recent years, LeBron has made significant efforts to address social issues and uplift his community. June 8th marked a significant milestone for LeBron James and his family foundation, along with community partners, as they celebrated the inauguration of the I PROMISE Housing development. This long awaited project serves as a complementary venture to the renowned I PROMISE school in Akron, embodying their collective commitment to empowering the community. A symbolic ribbon cutting ceremony marked the beginning of a new chapter in their mission to uplift and support the residents of Akron.

Recognizing the housing crisis and economic disparities in various neighborhoods, LeBron decided to leverage his influence and resources to make a positive change. His housing project focuses on providing affordable and safe housing options for families who face financial hardships.

At the symbolic ribbon-cutting ceremony, which marked the beginning of a new chapter in their mission to uplift and support the residents of Akron, the presence of James' mother, Gloria James, alongside community leaders, signifies the realization of their shared vision. The collaboration between the East Akron Neighborhood Development Corporation (EANDC) and the LeBron James Family Foundation has brought to life a remarkable $16 million development. This visionary project stands as a testament to their relentless dedication to the improvement of the community and the creation of a brighter future for its residents.

Within the captivating modern-day structure lies a collection of 50 well-made residential units. Offering a range of two, three, and four-bedroom layouts, this modern building stands as a testament to thoughtful design and functionality. Tenants fortunate enough to call this place home are granted access to a lineup of amenities, including community and fitness rooms, secure bicycle storage, specialized units catering to mobility and sensory needs, and the convenience of fiber optic Wi-Fi available in all apartments.

The collaboration between the LeBron James Family Foundation and EANDC extends beyond the physical housing development. Together, they are dedicated to offering comprehensive support to tenants through a range of services. This includes access to job and family services, medical and mental healthcare provisions, educational and career advancement training, as well as financial literacy programs. With a shared vision for the future, the ultimate aspiration is to empower these tenants to transition from renting to homeownership, fostering long-term stability and self-sufficiency.

Continue to strive for greatness LBJ!

NBA Finals Preview: Heat vs Nuggets

Get ready for an in-depth NBA Finals preview of the highly anticipated matchup between the Miami Heat and Denver Nuggets. We discuss it here!

MIAMI GARDENS, FLORIDA - MARCH 31, 2023: Jimmy Butler, an American professional basketball player for the Miami Heat, attend the semifinal match at 2023 Miami Open at the Hard Rock Stadium in Miami

Credit: Leonard Zhukovsky via Shutterstock

By: Joshua Martin

We may not have arrived to the Finals matchup we expected but it's definitely the one we deserved. The two best players in this year’s playoffs lead two squads who are polar opposites in almost every spectrum.

You have Jimmy Butler who, with the combined forces of excellent coaching by Coach Eric Spoelstra and timely shot making from undrafted vets, helped propel a squad without its second leading scorer back to the championship round for the second time in 4 years. It's truly a David vs. Goliath scenario. So has been the journey for the Heat the entire way it seems. Starting in the play-in tournament, eventually becoming an 8th seed. No one had the Heat in this position.

Then there’s Nikola Jokic, two time MVP, undisputed leader of the best team in the western conference all year long, leading a squad that's incredibly deep, consistently brilliant offensively and poised to lift the Larry O’Brien trophy for the first time in its franchise’s history. Jamal Murray and Jokic have been historically good this postseason and the Nuggets are finally healthy at the right time.

The Journey

The Nuggets haven’t been tested much this postseason if we're being honest. Jokic dominated a brittle Lakers team with a flurry of triple doubles, sweeping them in the Western Finals. Murray turned back the hands of time and gave us a taste of what we saw from him in the bubble against the Suns, lifting them to a 4-2 series victory. The Timberwolves stole a game but it’s called a “gentleman's sweep”, emphasis on the word sweep, for a reason.

The Heat on the other hand lost its first game of the play-in tournament but bounced back to secure an unfavorable first round matchup against. Unfavorable until Giannis sustained a back injury. The Heat handled the Bucks in 4-1 series thumping. Kept that same energy against the Knicks, reaching 4 wins in 6 games. Though pushed to a game 7, the Heat's supporting cast stepped up again led by Caleb Martin's deadly stroke from deep, becoming the first 8th seed since 1999 to reach the NBA Finals.

Heat X factor - Caleb Martin - averaged 19.3 points per game in the east finals, along with shooting 60 percent from the floor and 49% from three.

X-Factors

Stars like Jokic, Butler and Jamal Murray will definitely have their say so on how this series will unfold but like most cases, the championship series is usually won between the margins, X-factors making timely shots and crucial decisions made by coaches in pivotal situations.

For the Heat, their fairing in this matchup hinges largely, in my opinion, on the health of Tyler Herro. After averaging 20.1 ppg for the Heat during the regular season, Herro has played only 19 minutes this postseason after suffering a broken hand in game 1 of the Bucks series. Herro isn't known for his defensive prowess but he is a capable scorer. For the Heat to have a legitimate chance in this series, they need all the firepower they can get to keep pace with the Nuggets. Shortly after Game 7, Senior NBA analyst for TNT, Chris Haynes, reported that Tyler is on course to return very soon.

The Nuggets have a number of players to pinpoint in this section. Bruce Brown, Kentavious Caldwell-Pope, Aaron Gordon. All are solid choices but the former number 2 overall pick in the 2018 draft may be the key to securing a title. Over the past few seasons, MPJ has thoroughly bought into being a role player but there are still plenty of moments when his pedigree shines through. Standing at 6’10”, once Porter Jr. gets going it's easy to see where the Klay Thompson comparisons come from. At his size, he will be able to simply shoot over or dribble past many of Miami’s defenders. If MPJ is involved and hitting his shots, he could be a nightmare matchup for the Heat.

Final Verdict

I've been totally wrong this entire playoffs. I initially thought the Bucks would represent the East with the Suns coming out of the West in a possible 2021 finals rematch. Both teams eventually fell by the wayside after sustaining crucial injuries and facing scorching hot teams who couldn’t miss from the field. But this is about the present, the here and now. And honestly, I believe the Heat will win. I know the Nuggets have a better deeper team, so did the Celtics. I know the Nuggets have a dominant MVP big man, so did the Bucks. The Nuggets faithful don't tend to reach the heights of some of your more delusional Knicks fans but I'm pretty sure Ball Arena will be in a raucous frenzy. With all that being said, this year’s playoffs have shown me that my gut is no longer reliable. Whatever I know, I truly don’t.

Heat in 6.
