Earlier this year, Nipsey Hussle’s brother, Blacc Sam, revealed that his first posthumous album is in the works and is set to be released later this year, while also clarifying that only certain music from the slain artist would ever see the light of day.

If Hussle didn’t actually do the verse or work with the person or put together the blueprint for the project, we not doing it. He did something with Bino, and there’s a new project that we’re about to release. This was a project that he had with Bino that was pretty much like 80% finished.

Next month, Fatman Scoop’s memorable legacy will be cemented with a street co-naming ceremony in his beloved hometown of Harlem, New York. Led by the Freeman Family, the initiative aims to memorialize the impact he has made in New York City, the music industry and beyond. NYC Council Member Dr. Yusef Salaam and the Forever Fatman Scoop Foundation will also join the city’s efforts.

The event is slated for August 9th, at 2:00 P.M. at the intersection of 109th Street and 5th Avenue. The street will officially be co-named “Isaac ‘Fatman Scoop’ Freeman III Place,” in front of friends, family members and community leaders expected to be in attendance.

Scoop has always represented Harlem with pride. This co-naming is a tribute not just to his artistry, but to his ongoing commitment to uplifting the community that raised him.
— Kendell “Sav” Freeman, Scoop’s brother via press release.

The GRAMMY Award winner passed away on August 31st, 2024 due to “hypertensive and atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease,” according to the Los Angeles Times. The Influential DJ was performing a set at the Hamden Town Center Park and suddenly collapsed during the middle of his show.

Born Isaac Freeman III on August 6th, 1968, Fatman Scoop adopted his iconic stage name from the nickname given to him by his uncle because of his love of ice cream as a child. He rose to fame with the release of his 1999 single “Be Faithful” featuring the Crooklyn Clan, which has been widely considered as one of the most popular party anthems of all time. Scoop’s booming voice and high energy was easily recognizable on top charting hits like “Drop” by Timbaland and Magoo, “U Sexy Girl” alongside Elephant Man, “Lose Control” with Missy Elliott and CIara, and many more.

The 59 year old Oakland native is hitting the road. Following back to back sold out shows at the iconic Apollo Theater in New York City and two homecoming nights at Oakland’s Fox Theater, Saadiq is bringing his one man show to cities all across the United States this fall.

“I’ve always wanted to do a one-man show. I want to challenge myself. My one person show has three acts; I will be talking about my career, bringing a couple of instruments to express myself, singing my original music as well as covers of songs I wish I had written, and more. I want it to feel magical and like a Broadway show.” - Raphael Saddiq

Earlier this year, the Tony, Toni, Tone co-founder announced the launch of the Raphael Saadiq Vinyl Club, opening his legendary musical vault to fans for the first time ever. Membership offers exclusive quarterly releases of Saadiq’s most celebrated albums.

“The very thing that got me started was vinyl. The vinyl club is something I’ve wanted to do for a long time. This first vinyl is very important for me to release. I call it Lucy Pearl 2.0. When you join the club, you get merch, maybe a song, a download in the middle of the night. Maybe I’ll drop something directly to you, access to private shows. We’re gonna be adding things to it all the time. It’s going to be new music, I’m not just gonna hold stuff in the studio. I’m gonna put stuff that I have in the vault.” - Raphael Saadiq via statement

J.Cole’s Dreamville Festival Set To Continue For The Next Four Years

Dreamville Festival, founded by J. Cole, announces a four-year extension in Raleigh, North Carolina, promising continued celebration of Black music and culture through 2029 with star-studded performances and strong local partnerships. We discuss it here!

What many expected to be the final installment of J. Cole’s iconic Dreamville Festival actually turned out to be the start of something new. Just days before the two day event kicked off at Dorothea Dix Park in Raleigh, North Carolina, organizers surprised many fans during a press conference by announcing the annual celebration of Black culture and music will continue for the next four years.

We’re going to be here for years to come. This is a multi-year deal, and we’re so excited to be working with the city of Raleigh together on something new and exciting, and to continue to build on this incredible thing that we’ve done over the years.
— Dreamville and Live Nation festival producer Sascha Stone Guttfreund

The partnership with the city of Raleigh will keep the festival in Dorothea Dix Park through at least 2029, reinforcing the event’s commitment to the local economy.

We’re going to continue on the same path that’s been successful for us. Our consumers have told us what they like, and we’re going to try to provide that to them for the next four years.
— Raleigh City Manager Marchell Adams-David.

Raleigh City Manager Marchell Adams-David also emphasized that J.Cole will remain involved with the festival’s direction going forward. Though it is unlikely he will perform every year.

He will obviously be involved, whether or not he headlines. That’s probably not going to be an occurrence, but he is a local resident. He is totally committed to this community, and he is totally committed to this festival.
— Raleigh City Manager Marchell Adams-David

Longtime manager and a key Dreamville executive, Ibrahim Hamad, echoed the same sentiment.

We call it our family reunion. I think a lot of people from all over the world and from all 50 states come in, and it’s good to be able to do it here in North Carolina.
— Ibrahim “Ib” Hamad, longtime manager of J. Cole and Dreamville executive

This year’s show included Saturday’s headliners Lil Wayne and the Hot Boys (Juvenile, Turk and B.G.) with the Big Tymers (Birdman and Mannie Fresh), 21 Savage, PARTYNEXTDOOR, and Ludacris. Other performers of the day included Dreamville’s own Ari Lennox, Ab-Soul, Bas, Young Nudy, Lute, Omen, Kai Ca$h and Niko Brim, with a special 20 year celebration of Keyshia Cole‘s debut album The Way It Is.

Sunday’s roster included headliners J. Cole, Erykah Badu, and Tems, with other performances by GloRilla, J.I.D., Wale, Coco Jones, Earthgang, BigXThaPlug, Anycia, Cozz, and Akia.
