Next month, Fatman Scoop’s memorable legacy will be cemented with a street co-naming ceremony in his beloved hometown of Harlem, New York. Led by the Freeman Family, the initiative aims to memorialize the impact he has made in New York City, the music industry and beyond. NYC Council Member Dr. Yusef Salaam and the Forever Fatman Scoop Foundation will also join the city’s efforts.
The event is slated for August 9th, at 2:00 P.M. at the intersection of 109th Street and 5th Avenue. The street will officially be co-named “Isaac ‘Fatman Scoop’ Freeman III Place,” in front of friends, family members and community leaders expected to be in attendance.
“Scoop has always represented Harlem with pride. This co-naming is a tribute not just to his artistry, but to his ongoing commitment to uplifting the community that raised him.”
The GRAMMY Award winner passed away on August 31st, 2024 due to “hypertensive and atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease,” according to the Los Angeles Times. The Influential DJ was performing a set at the Hamden Town Center Park and suddenly collapsed during the middle of his show.
Born Isaac Freeman III on August 6th, 1968, Fatman Scoop adopted his iconic stage name from the nickname given to him by his uncle because of his love of ice cream as a child. He rose to fame with the release of his 1999 single “Be Faithful” featuring the Crooklyn Clan, which has been widely considered as one of the most popular party anthems of all time. Scoop’s booming voice and high energy was easily recognizable on top charting hits like “Drop” by Timbaland and Magoo, “U Sexy Girl” alongside Elephant Man, “Lose Control” with Missy Elliott and CIara, and many more.

What many expected to be the final installment of J. Cole’s iconic Dreamville Festival actually turned out to be the start of something new. Just days before the two day event kicked off at Dorothea Dix Park in Raleigh, North Carolina, organizers surprised many fans during a press conference by announcing the annual celebration of Black culture and music will continue for the next four years.
“We’re going to be here for years to come. This is a multi-year deal, and we’re so excited to be working with the city of Raleigh together on something new and exciting, and to continue to build on this incredible thing that we’ve done over the years.”
The partnership with the city of Raleigh will keep the festival in Dorothea Dix Park through at least 2029, reinforcing the event’s commitment to the local economy.
“We’re going to continue on the same path that’s been successful for us. Our consumers have told us what they like, and we’re going to try to provide that to them for the next four years.”
Raleigh City Manager Marchell Adams-David also emphasized that J.Cole will remain involved with the festival’s direction going forward. Though it is unlikely he will perform every year.
“He will obviously be involved, whether or not he headlines. That’s probably not going to be an occurrence, but he is a local resident. He is totally committed to this community, and he is totally committed to this festival.”
Longtime manager and a key Dreamville executive, Ibrahim Hamad, echoed the same sentiment.
“We call it our family reunion. I think a lot of people from all over the world and from all 50 states come in, and it’s good to be able to do it here in North Carolina.”
This year’s show included Saturday’s headliners Lil Wayne and the Hot Boys (Juvenile, Turk and B.G.) with the Big Tymers (Birdman and Mannie Fresh), 21 Savage, PARTYNEXTDOOR, and Ludacris. Other performers of the day included Dreamville’s own Ari Lennox, Ab-Soul, Bas, Young Nudy, Lute, Omen, Kai Ca$h and Niko Brim, with a special 20 year celebration of Keyshia Cole‘s debut album The Way It Is.
Sunday’s roster included headliners J. Cole, Erykah Badu, and Tems, with other performances by GloRilla, J.I.D., Wale, Coco Jones, Earthgang, BigXThaPlug, Anycia, Cozz, and Akia.

Summer Smash 2025 Returns Headlined by Don Toliver Young Thug, Future & More

CHICAGO, IL – The countdown is on. Summer Smash Festival, the ultimate hip-hop takeover, is back and bigger than ever for its seventh year, taking over SeatGeek Stadium from Friday, June 20 to Sunday, June 22. Brought to you by the powerhouse teams at Lyrical Lemonade and SPKRBX, this isn’t just a festival—it’s the festival, and if you don’t have tickets yet, you’re playing yourself.
With the initial presale selling out in advance, another wave of GA, VIP, and Platinum passes drops this Friday, March 28 at Noon CST via www.TheSummerSmash.com. These will be the lowest-priced tickets available before prices go up—so act fast.
“We are excited to present the 7th edition of the largest independent hip-hop festival in the world and can’t wait to show the fans what we’ve been working on”
Cole Bennett, the visionary behind Lyrical Lemonade, added: “I feel lucky to be able to throw the party of the year with my best friends. May this be the best one yet. Lucky number 7.”
Last year, Summer Smash set the bar sky-high, hosting Chief Keef’s triumphant return to Chicagoland and Travis Scott’s Cactus Jack crew’s U.S. festival debut. But 2025? This lineup is unreal. The one and only Young Thug, cultural icon and Grammy-winning rap star, will make his first live performance in nearly three years to close out the festival on Sunday. This is history in the making.
On Friday, it’s a must-see moment as Don Toliver and YEAT take the stage together for a never-before-seen collaborative set, marking their festival debut as a duo. Saturday night belongs to the legend himself—Future. A Summer Smash alum and one of the most dominant forces in hip-hop, Future is set to take the festival by storm during a career-defining run. And that’s just the beginning. Chicago’s own will be front and center, with heavy hitters like Chance The Rapper, G Herbo, Saba, and Famous Dex taking the stage.
Festival favorites Sexyy Red, Quavo, SahBabii, Nav, Ski Mask the Slump God, Trippie Redd, and NLE Choppa are all locked in. Meanwhile, first-time Summer Smash performers include the one and only Soulja Boy, rising sensation 1900Rugrat, and the buzzing newcomer Che. The biggest weekend in independent hip-hop is locked in, and you don’t want to be the one watching it unfold from your phone. Secure your tickets this Friday before they’re gone.

Will Smith aka “The Fresh Prince” is making his grand return to this music game with his latest release after a 20-year hiatus for the superstar. The 14-track album will reunite the Fresh Prince with his longtime friend and collaborator on the 1991 hit “Summertime” by DJ Jazzy Jeff and features collaborations with Teyana Taylor and Jack Ross. Smith released the single “Beautiful Scars” with Big Sean and Obangain earlier this year.

Filled with excitement, the iconic actor, rapper, and producer took to Instagram to share that his new project 'Based on a True Story' will be released in the next two weeks.
“It’s OFFICIAL!! My new album, Based on a True Story, drops on March 28. TWO WEEKS!! Hit that presave. Been working on this project for a minute and I’m itchin’ to get it out to y’all”
Shortly after the video's release, Smith spoke about how the new music is a bit different from previous work.
“There’s a thing, there’s a brand that is Will Smith, you know, and the brand is slightly different from the man. The brand is just a really narrow slice of what the man is, and the man has expanded in a way that the brand can almost feel like a prison.”
The album release date news came the same weekend he and his “Fresh Prince of Bel-Air” costar Tatyana Ali recreated an iconic scene from their series, accompanied by an assist from Grammy-winning female rapper, Doechii. Their TikTok performance was done to Doechii’s viral hit “Anxiety.”
You can catch Will Smith on the road this summer as well as a European tour is set to follow the album. The 26-date run will kick off on June 25th at the Moroccan music festival in Mawazine.
Tickets will go on sale Friday, March 21st. Early access is available via the official Will Smith website.

A$AP Rocky Acquitted: A Victory in Court and Fashion
A$AP Rocky walked out of a Los Angeles courtroom victorious, not just in clearing his name from an assault charge, but also in making a bold sartorial statement, solidifying his reputation as both a trendsetter and cultural icon. We discuss it here!

A$AP Rocky, Grammy-nominated artist and husband to Rihanna, walked out of a Los Angeles courtroom victorious. Not just in legal terms but in sartorial excellence. The rapper, known for his avant-garde approach to fashion, was found not guilty of an assault charge stemming from a dispute with former friend and fellow A$AP Mob member, Terrell Ephron (A$AP Relli). While the legal battle may have been the focus of the proceedings, Rocky’s courtroom attire made an equally compelling statement.
Rocky arrived in a sophisticated pinstripe suit, effortlessly blending formal elegance with his signature streetwear-infused style. His look featured a tailored wool ensemble, a sleek double-breasted $5,300 cashmere jacket, and a refined $4,000 trench coat, each piece selected to exude confidence and composure. His footwear choice, a pair of glazed leather Vadim Derbies from a French luxury house further cemented his position as a style icon. Finishing touches included silk scarves and immaculately styled braids, reinforcing his reputation for elevating menswear with a personal twist.
The verdict comes at a pivotal time for Rocky, who has several high-profile projects on the horizon. He is set to headline Rolling Loud in Los Angeles this March, serve as a celebrity co-chair for the Met Gala in May, and star alongside Denzel Washington in Spike Lee’s latest film. Despite the high stakes of the trial, Rocky maintained an air of poise and humility, using fashion as an unspoken declaration of resilience and triumph.
Interestingly, Rihanna, his equally fashion-forward wife, was also seen in a pinstripe ensemble, subtly mirroring Rocky’s aesthetic. While her presence was a noteworthy addition, this moment was undeniably his both in court and in couture.
From legal battles to front-row fashion, A$AP Rocky continues to prove that style and substance go hand in hand. His courtroom attire wasn’t just a choice; it was a statement; a victorious one at that.

Founded by the musical icon, the organization continues its mission to close wealth gaps and uplift minority entrepreneurs. This year, the 2025 Black Ambition Prize Competition, will make more than 1 million dollars available for 25 deserving candidates, while also offering participants mentorship and resources needed to expand their businesses and transform industries.
“Five years ago, Black Ambition was an idea. Today, it’s a force. A catalyst for change. A platform where underrepresented entrepreneurs don’t just get a seat at the table they build new tables, positioning themselves for uninterrupted success. When we invest in diverse talent, we unlock limitless potential. But this is just the beginning. Let’s keep building, keep breaking barriers, and keep rewriting the rules. I can’t wait to see what we do in the next five years.”
The competition is open to entrepreneurs pioneering in consumer products and services, healthcare, media and entertainment, technology, and Artificial Intelligence. Those selected will embark on a 12-week program designed to refine their business strategies, enhance their pitches, and connect with an influential network of investors and industry leaders.
The competition will begin with 150-200 exceptional semifinalists participating in a three-month mentorship program, offering strategic guidance and direct access to business leaders. From there, the top 40 founders will advance to a public voting round and undergo intensive pitch training to prepare for the final stages. Ultimately, the top 20 finalists will receive funding, with select entrepreneurs also gaining pitch deck design support and expert coaching to strengthen their business positioning.
“Black Ambition’s fifth anniversary is more than a milestone—it’s proof of what happens when vision, resilience, and community come together. It’s a testament to what’s possible when we invest in each other. What started as a mission to close the wealth and opportunity gap has grown into a global movement, proving that underrepresented founders don’t just belong in the room—they are redefining the game.”
Black Ambition
“I think that young Black and Brown ideas and businesses lack the mentorship. So really, handy scaffolding that one would need when launching a business, or having a start up. There’s lack of interconnectivity and the power of interconnectivity that you get from when you galvanize. The answer to your question is Black Ambition. This is the place where you can come and you can galvanize and you can be a part of a village, a part of a beehive—people who all have very similar ambitions to yours. Black Ambition is a place where you can get these things.”
