The late hometown hero Nipsey Hussle is set to be recognized by the Los Angeles Metro on what would have been his 40th birthday. Launching on August 15th, Hussle will be featured on two limited edition TAP cards. Also, the Hyde Park Station will be temporarily renamed in his honor.

The release is a part of the Metro x Culture series, which according to the official website, celebrates the “Real Ones” of Los Angeles. Which includes leaders, artists and visionaries who have shaped the city’s culture, specifically those whose lives have intersected with Metro’s transit system.

In total, 12,000 TAP cards will be in circulation until they sell out and the exclusive item will not be sold online. Fans of the “Slauson Boy” can claim their new cards by signing up for the LIFE program and at TVMS at the following locations:

Hyde Park Station (K Line)

Crenshaw Station (C Line)

Slauson Station (J Line)

Compton Station (A Line)

Hollywood/Vine Station (B Line)

Expo/Crenshaw Station (E Line)

The two designs available for the Nipsey Hussle TAP card will feature him standing proudly in his neighborhood in artwork titled “Crenshaw & Slauson,” by Jonathan Mannion. The second image captures the late rapper on the Metro, in a photo taken by Anthony Pham.

Earlier this year, Nipsey Hussle’s brother, Blacc Sam, revealed that his first posthumous album is in the works and is set to be released later this year, while also clarifying that only certain music from the slain artist would ever see the light of day.

If Hussle didn’t actually do the verse or work with the person or put together the blueprint for the project, we not doing it. He did something with Bino, and there’s a new project that we’re about to release. This was a project that he had with Bino that was pretty much like 80% finished.
