This exclusive event honored three of the industry’s most distinguished actors: John David Washington, Colman Domingo, and Sebastian Stan who graced the November cover.
The evening was a testament to cinematic excellence, with each honoree recognized for their significant contributions to film and television over the past year. With featured cocktails and bites from Ardray Blended Scotch Whisky, El Cristiano Premium Tequila, and Golden Eagle Vodka, plus Miraval Cotes de Provence rose and sensational hors d’oeuvres, all set against the backdrop of the Los Angeles skyline.

Netflix dropped the trailer for this highly anticipated performance, featuring voiceovers and news headlines hinting at the speculations surrounding Foxx’s health. The trailer continues with Foxx walking on stage to an enthusiastic crowd, exclaiming “I’m Back!” before expressing his gratitude to the raucous audience.

Filmed in Atlanta this past October, this special will not only entertain but also offer fans a glimpse into the most difficult chapter of Foxx’s life. The trailer concludes with Foxx revealing the theme of the special, giving audiences a glimpse into his recovery.

In April 2023, Foxx was hospitalized after experiencing a life threatening medical complication that led to a coma-like state for several days. Little information was released about his condition, leaving fans anxious about the cause of his health scare.
Foxx has addressed the incident on several occasions since but has chosen to leave the exact cause of the medical emergency private. In December 2023, Foxx made his first public appearance at the Critics Choice Association’s Celebration of Cinema and Television, where he reflected on his recovery.
“I couldn’t do that six months ago. I couldn’t actually walk to [the stage]. It feels good to be here. I cherish every single minute now.”
Foxx’s last comedy special, Jamie Foxx Unleashed: Lost, Stolen and Leaked!, was released in 2003, making this new special his first time returning to the stage in over 20 years.
“What Had Happened Was…” is executive produced by Foxx, Marcus King, Datari Turner, James Longman, Raj Kapoor, Katy Mullan, and Hamish Hamilton, who also directs. The production companies behind the special include Foxxhole and Done + Dusted.

LOS ANGELES, CA - Last night was a vibe at the Rooftop Cinema in downtown Los Angeles as Warner Records rolled out the red carpet for the premiere of NLE Choppa Presents: The Wash. This isn’t just another short film; it’s Choppa's fresh take on the cult classic starring Snoop Dogg and Dr. Dre, crafted with heart and hustle. At just 21 years old, Choppa is making waves as he co-writes, co-produces, and co-directs, giving us a modern twist on a beloved story.
The star-studded affair brought out the who's who of the scene. Amber Rose, Bia, Dreezy, Sukihana, Kayla Nicole, Skilla Baby, Ray Vaughn, and 310Babii were all there, soaking up the celebratory energy. The documentary sheds light on their resilience and perseverance in overcoming systemic barriers to leadership in politics, labor, activism, and the judicial system.
Following the screening, there will be a "Respect My Crown" panel discussion featuring the filmmakers Pamela Bright-Moon and Alisa Bass Covington, author Robert Lee Johnson, along with Omar Cook and Adonis Armstrong from 247 Live Culture. From hilarious sketch battles to the wild freestyle segments, the cast delivered nonstop laughter. Chicago stood out as a crucial stop on the tour, with its unique energy blending perfectly with the show’s mix of comedy and culture.

But the magic wasn’t just on stage. Behind the scenes, the show’s success was fueled by an all-Black operation, making this tour even more meaningful. Eugene Parker, CEO of 5120 Entertainment and tour promoter, explained that almost every aspect of production—from staffing to management—was handled by Black professionals. “This is a completely Black-run operation, and we take pride in showcasing what Black excellence represents in every part of this tour,” Parker said, highlighting the tour’s commitment to creating space for Black talent in the entertainment industry.
With unexpected moments and a celebration of Black excellence both on stage and behind the scenes, the Chicago stop of Wild ’N Out Live Tour proved to be an unforgettable experience for fans. The tour continues to celebrate comedy, music, and culture, while pushing the boundaries of representation in entertainment.

The Star Wars actor is channeling a new kind of star power as Otis Redding alongside Till actress, Deadwyler, in the upcoming biopic. Written and directed by acclaimed playwright, screenwriter and actor Donnetta Lavinia, this on-screen portrayal of the legendary musician’s career and the intricacies of he and his wife’s relationship has the full support of Zelma Redding and the Otis Redding estate. “Otis and Zelma” is the title of the film and will be directed by Channing Godfrey People and produced by Fifth Season, Homegrown Pictures and Kinfolk Management + Media.
All of this news comes ahead of Redding’s posthumous induction into the Hollywood Walk of Fame this Friday (Oct. 4th). Redding’s daughter, Karla Redding, will accept the star on behalf of her late father and Killer Mike will deliver a speech at the event. Ana Martinez, Producer of the Walk of Fame ceremonies, shared her thoughts on Redding’s star dedication.
“The Hollywood Chamber of Commerce is honored to dedicate a star to the legendary Otis Redding, whose music continues to inspire generations.”
According to reports, an early synopsis of the film “celebrates the 10 short years Otis and Zelma had together, and their eternal love story after his passing. Zelma’s resilience and determination to preserve his musical legacy for the last 56 years fuels her, just as much as Otis’ love for Zelma fueled him.”
At just the age of 26 years old, Otis Redding died tragically in a 1967 plane crash. Leaving behind his wife and three young children. The Georgia legend’s solo career earned him two Grammy awards, the Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award and inductions into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, Black Music & Entertainment Hall of Fame and the Songwriters Hall of Fame.
“He left so much special music for everybody. But I really have to commend my family and myself to continue this legacy because you cannot have a legacy if you don’t work it. We have everything we need for Otis Redding and that’s why we work so hard to preserve and protect his legacy. We wouldn’t know any way to do it without it.”

The 2024 VMAs aired on September 11th, and while Megan Thee Stallion served as both host and honorable guest of the evening, it was GloRilla’s moment to shine. She owned the carpet in an edgy, platinum three-piece set, complete with pants, a bralette, and a cropped jacket with a train. Her detailed hairstyle paid homage to Lisa “Left Eye” Lopes, setting the stage for her VMA debut. With not one but two tracks worthy of "Song of the Summer" consideration, the timing couldn’t have been better.
After a quick wardrobe change into a bedazzled suit and matching fitted hat, GloRilla brought "Yeah Glo" and "TGIF" to life, flanked by her dancers. Her performance level has noticeably elevated, and there’s a newfound comfort in her dance moves as she confidently commands the stage. The choreography was fun, memorable, and dynamic, with both the crowd’s and GloRilla’s energy amplifying the vibe. As she transitioned from "Yeah Glo" to "TGIF," she tossed the oversized blazer, flaunting all of that "thickness," as she calls it. Though she faced what could have been a major wardrobe malfunction, she handled it in a seasoned and poised manner, continuing to deliver a standout performance.
The build-up to this moment has been thrilling to witness as a fan. Before the VMAs, GloRilla received the key to her hometown of Memphis on 901 Day, joining the ranks of Yo Gotti and Drake. Earlier this year, she became the longest-charting female artist of 2024, with "Yeah Glo" becoming her first solo track to hit the Billboard Hot 100. Nearly four decades into her career, the legendary actress Angela Bassett finally received her first Emmy Award. She was presented the award this past weekend (Sept. 7) during the Creative Arts Emmys, where she took home the trophy for outstanding narration on National Geographic’s nature documentary “Queen.”
The multi-talented thespian opened up to the press about what this particular distinction means to her.
“We don’t work for these, but we receive them for all the hard work that we do,” Bassett said. “Of course, it’s not work that you do alone, even though it’s for narration. There’s a whole team that pursued me and believed in me, fought for me, and worked with me to tell this amazing story of females in the wild kingdom, led by an all-female production team, a first in wildlife documentary filmmaking. So that was pretty inspiring to me in and of itself. ”
Bassett, who has earned nine career Emmy nominations, also expressed her surprise at winning one of the big four awards at the event.
“This is one of the big ones, and that doesn’t usually happen. Whenever you’re acknowledged, I’m just, you know, a girl who just wanted to act. My mentors were way out ahead of me. I just looked to them and got inspiration and hope and, and I just put my focus, my energy and my love to try to make it happen in my life and for my life. ”
Still in awe, the 66-year-old took to Instagram to express her feelings on securing her first Emmy.
“I couldn’t be more thrilled and more grateful. Thank you, each and every one of you.”
