Just one week following Black Maternal Health month, singer songwriter Victoria Monét teamed up with the wife of former NBA MVP Stephen Curry, Ayesha Curry to combat the maternal health crisis plaguing urban areas throughout the country.
The non profit organization, Baby2Baby, partnered with the ladies to take a firm stand against the ongoing maternal health crisis. The org also announced a $8,000,000 partnership with Huggies, tapping the beloved women to help with the expansion of their initiative.
Together, Curry, Monet and media personality Sofia Richie volunteered on Tuesday (April 22nd) to pack maternal health and newborn supply kits. The kits were essential for new mothers as the kits included necessities such as diapers, wipes, hygiene products, postpartum care items and educational resources. Dedicated to helping support both moms and their children through postpartum.
“We are deeply thankful to our longtime partners at Huggies for their unwavering support. Thanks to their extraordinary ($8,000,000) donation and three-year commitment, we will make a greater impact in the fight against maternal mortality. With their help, we are expanding our efforts to deliver supplies to new mothers across fifteen states, ensuring they have the basic essentials they need for themselves and their babies, especially during the already overwhelming postpartum period.”
Monet herself has had issues with postpartum. A dark time in her life, the Grammy Award winner reflected on her struggle with postpartum depression following the birth of her daughter Hazel.
“I was really having a hard time. I had postpartum depression, I was still breastfeeding, just adjusting to the life, but also in the midst of COVID. So we’re in a pandemic, everything’s a little bit risky, scary to even be in the studio with a child. And ‘On My Mama’ was the first record I did that I actually liked. But it came while I was in a place of disbelief in what I was actually saying. So it’s almost like I had to speak it into existence.”
Through this meaningful new partnership, Baby2Baby, Huggies, Monet, Curry and Grainge are aiming to make a difference in the lives of mothers and babies all over in need.
