Platinum Artist CUPID Talks Creating the ‘Cupid Shuffle’ & His Next Viral Dance Hit 'Pop That Fan'

By: Omar Cook

Los Angeles, CABoomBox Weekly Podcast is proud to present an all-new episode spotlighting CUPID, the multi-platinum recording artist and cultural icon behind the global dance sensation “Cupid Shuffle.” Known for uniting generations through the power of music and movement, CUPID joins the show to reflect on his journey, impact, and exciting future—including his new single, “Pop That Fan”!

On this episode of BoomBox Weekly, listeners are taken behind the scenes of CUPID’s remarkable evolution—from a talented athlete to a visionary musician whose work has shaped music, dance, and community celebrations around the world.

Hailing from the heart of Lafayette, Louisiana, CUPID’s roots in music began early with church performances and local talent shows. While once a promising football and track star at the University of Louisiana at Lafayette, his path took a transformative turn as he left athletics behind to pursue music full-time. After developing his sound with the group 5th Element, he launched a solo career in 2001 and quickly made waves on the Southern music scene. Early regional hits like “Do Yo Thang,” “Check Yo Girl, Check Yo Guy,” “Swing Around the Rosey,” and “The BBQ” set the stage for what would become a cultural breakthrough.

That breakthrough came in 2006 with the release of “The Cupid Shuffle,” a song that redefined line dancing and catapulted CUPID into international fame. Now a 6X platinum artist, his work has been featured in major brand campaigns for Walmart, McDonald’s, and more, as well as in blockbuster films like Step Up. His signature dance tracks continue to fuel celebrations across family reunions, weddings, schools, and festivals.

In the podcast episode, host Omar Cook explores the legacy of The Cupid Shuffle, the cultural influence of line dance in the Black community, and how CUPID continues to innovate. With his new single “Pop That Fan” currently making waves, he shares what fans can expect from this electrifying new era of music and movement.

This episode is a must-listen for fans of music, culture, and anyone who’s ever hit the dance floor to one of CUPID’s iconic tracks.
