Jackson, Mississippi artist Dear Silas is praised for his lyrical compositions and innovative sound, which grants him a unique musical gift, characterized by his distinct style and flavor. He took interest in hip-hop during high school and further honed his musical skills at the University of Louisiana in Monroe. Departing college close to completing his degree, he opted to pursue a career in music. After dropping his initial mixtape, his independent debut album 'The Day I Died' arrived in 2016 and started to generate a fan base.
Despite his rising music career, Silas worked at the Apple store in the Jackson metro area to make ends meet. It was there that he birthed the vocal hook for "Skrr Skrr." The track's breakthrough came in 2018 when a Dexter's Laboratory-themed meme featuring the song went viral, catching the attention of his colleagues, leading him to finish and release the track online. The viral video meme, showing Dexter singing the chorus of "Skrr Skrr" to another student, increased the song's popularity and significantly elevated the rapper's profile, subsequently attracting interest from record labels and resulting in a partnership with RCA.
“Just be okay being you and you are the only version of you and nobody else is like you. ”
He had a dope song called "I Ain’t Stressin' Today" from his recent album Self Love, which now features a remix with the West Coast legend Snoop Dogg. He also released a special tribute video that pays homage to his city that features shots around the vibrant City with Soul and THEE Jackson State University.

It seems all of our favorite rappers have been shouting him out, posting about his music and co-signing that he is definitely the next artist to take the world by storm. Hunxho will be lighting up the stage and accompanying Lil Baby on his IOU tour this summer. Hunxho acknowledges that the opportunity is a major blessing and plans to go all in. He attributes his success thus far to his drive and resilience.
“I gotta do something to make them remember me, in every state I go to. He’s giving me his audience, and I gotta make the best out of it” said Hunxho in an exclusive interview with BoomBox Weekly.
Hunxho who is managed by his uncle Raja’ee Muhammad’s 1Team Entertainment management group, is motivated by his family and faith. His manager and uncle, Raja’ee Muhammad shared that faith, family, knowledge and wisdom is what collectively drives Hunchxo and his team. Hunhxo’s rise has been fast paced and electrifying and to the naked eye, fame and all its elements can be frightening. When asked about the craziness and darkness that comes with the industry, Muhammad says all those vices can be overcome.
“Hunhxo is a fighter and survivor. Navigating through things with a flicker of light will always distinguish darkness. We are honest and want everyone to win and we’re focused on that as a family. We’re not really focused on all of the other things that come with the industry. We want to empower our people,” said Muhammad.
“What I’ve been through can be someone else’s lesson so that they don’t have to go through the same obstacles and pain,” added Hunchxo. The rapper shared a message for upcoming artists on the grind with us.
"You don’t have to listen to nobody tells you how to do nothin, you can do it your own way and still get to where you gotta be. Stay consistent, practice makes perfect. The more you stay in the studio. The more you shoot videos. Anything that got to do with music, the more you gone go up. Long as its more views than last time, you’re doing something right. Even if it’s not, keep going.” - Hunxho stated on BoomBox Weekly
